ASPEN Enterprise Module (EDX)
Newest Version
The ASPEN Enterprise Module (EDX) is an add-on for the ASPEN OneLiner program, designed to streamline network model data management and facilitate model-building collaboration. It provides a structured and controlled framework that allows OneLiner and other compatible programs to access, build, and update ASPEN network modes. The program is designed for protection and control teams within a single utility or across interconnected utility companies.
At the core of EDX is the Enterprise Database (EDB), a backend relational database hosted on either Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server. This shared database stores all network model data and provides controlled access to team members.
The connection between OneLiner (and other EDX client applications) and the EDB is asynchronous. This means users can continue to work with OneLiner as a standalone desktop application, while connecting to the EDB only when they need to exchange model data.
To conduct a study, a user logs in to the EDB and retrieves an appropriate OneLiner model (OLR file). Simulations are then performed using OneLiner's traditional desktop interface. When a model has been updated, authorized users can submit changes back to the EDB using the built-in commit command in OneLiner. Updates become visible to other users only after they are reviewed and approved by a supervisor or peer.
The system maintains a detailed change journal, which logs: Time and date of change,
Username, "Before" and "After" values, User-provided description and justification,
Source reference for the change.
EDX supports integration with the ASPEN Relay Database and ASPEN Line Database. Users with appropriate licenses can merge data from these systems into the shared EDB, ensuring consistency across models and settings. This allows OneLiner models to remain synchronized with the latest relay settings and line impedance data.
The EDX software consists of the following main components:
The EDX database (EDB): the backend shared database hosted on the user’s MS SQL or Oracle database server.
EDX client software, which includes:
OneLiner V15.7 and later: the program is shipped with a built-in EDX client.
EDX DashBoard: A launcher for EDX applications.
EDX Case Browser: A graphical browser for OneLiner cases in the EDX
EDX Setup and Admin Tool: Tools for configuration and administration.
EDX Model Builder (In-development): A EDX application that will allow users to build ASPEN study models from various data sources in automated with-engineer-in-the-loop manner.
EDX Web Interface server (In-development): A Windows web server application that will enable common EDX operations in a web browser.
EDX Web API server (In-development): A Windows server application enabling EDX operations through Web API calls.
