ASPEN OneLiner Training Course For Power System Engineers. July 8 - 21, 2024 (Web-based)

This training course is designed for engineers who are using ASPEN OneLiner to perform short circuit and relay coordination studies and wish to become more proficient in using the program in system modeling, short circuit calculations, breaker rating studies, relay modeling, and protection coordination studies. The course is intended for users of all levels.

For a duration of two weeks, the course will be published on aspeninc.teachable.com to give enrolled students full on-demand access to over 30 hours of recorded video lectures and demos, downloadable self-pacing hands-on exercises. Students will be able to download and use the ASPEN OneLiner training software on their personal computers for practice and exercises.  ASPEN instructors will conduct QA discussion sessions in the course's web forum and in web meetings.

The participant's progress in the teachable.com course will be automatically logged and the certificate of completion will be awarded accordingly.

Instructors

Sherman Chan received his BS degree from Harvey Mudd College and his Ph.D. degree from M.I.T., both in engineering. He worked at Bonneville Power Administration and at System Control, Inc. before founding ASPEN in 1986. Sherman is a Fellow of IEEE and the Hertz Foundation.

Charlie Henville received his BA and MA degrees from Cambridge University and his MEng. degree from the University of British Columbia. He worked as a protection engineer at BC Hydro for 27 years before starting his consulting company Henville Consulting Inc. Charlie is a well-experienced trainer of ASPEN OneLiner, a Fellow of IEEE, and a registered professional engineer in the province of British Columbia, Canada.

Thanh Nguyen received his BS and MS degrees in Nuclear Power Engineering from Moscow Power Engineering Institute in Russia and a Ph.D. degree in power systems at the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee. Thanh is in charge of Software development, training, and outreach at ASPEN. Thanh is a member of IEEE.

Xu Zhang joined ASPEN as a power software developer after receiving a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology. Xu is a Member of IEEE.

Class Dates and Time

From the 8th of July through the 21st of July, 2024, enrolled course registrants will have on-demand access to recorded video lectures, downloadable course materials, and the web discussion forum on the ASPEN Training Center at aspeninc.teachable.com website. There will be two web-meeting sessions, where ASPEN instructors will be available for Q&A and discussion. The network license key to run the training software will be available during the same period of time.

Teachable.com Account and Training Software

Course registrants will need to create their own teachable.com account to access the course materials, take part in discussion sessions, and receive the completion certificate.

The ASPEN OneLiner training software will be made available to all course registrants for practice and exercise on their personal Windows PC. The use of the training software for this course is recommended even if students already have access to the production version of the OneLiner program.

The training software setup program download link and installation instructions will be sent by email to all enrolled students at least 5 business days before the course start date. Full windows admin privileges will be required for successful software installation.

To run the training software, the computer must have uninterrupted internet access to the ASPEN server, where the license key is installed.

Cancellation Policy

If you cannot attend, you can transfer the registration to another person from your company. If you wish to cancel, we will refund the registration fee provided that you notify us by writing two weeks before the start date of the class. There will be no refund or transfer for students who started but did not complete the course.

Sales Tax Refund

ASPEN uses Teachables.com to collect the training fees, and under their guidelines, when the transaction qualifies for sales tax in your state, they must collect it. Students from tax-exempt organizations who purchase products or services on the Teachable platform, should fill out the form here to submit a refund request. The refund request should include a copy of the purchase receipt showing the sales tax paid and Order ID, as well as a copy of their state sales tax exemption certificate. Teachable will issue a refund once the documentation has been reviewed and approved. Usually, the process takes about 7 days.
