How To Keep OneLiner Base Case Synchronized and Up to Date

It is a common practice in electric utilities to have a OneLiner base case file that is shared by all in the protection team. After engineers make changes in the network model and relay settings, the base case must be updated so that the changes are available to all team members.

The process described below is designed to maintain the base case file with all changes made by team members, who can work independently in the same office as well as at multiple sites.

1. Start each update cycle by publishing a common BaseCase.olr file. Team members save their own copy of the base case for their work.

2. Build a new base case NewBaseCase.olr at the end of update cycle:

  • Collect snap short of work copies: Each team member makes a snapshot of their work copy WorkCopySnapShot.olr and sends to the coordinator.

  • Create change file from work copies: Coordinator runs the Case Comparison Program with BaseCase.olr as file A and each of the WorkCopySnapShot_n.olr as file B to produce corresponding report file WorkCopyChangeReport_n.rep and change file Change_n.chf. The Case Comparison Program is included in every OneLiner installation.

  • Apply changes from work copies to the base case:  Coordinator runs command File | Read  change file in the BaseCase.olr  to apply changes from all Change_n.chf files. Save result in ModifiedBaseCase.olr

  • Data modification conflict detection and resolution: Run Case comparison program with each of the WorkCopySnapshot_n.olr as file A and ModifiedBaseCase.olr as file B to produce report of changes ChangeReport_n.rep. Compare the report with corresponding WorkCopyChangeReport_n.rep to determine if there are any conflicting changes. For example a conflict will arise when one team member had made changes to impedance value of a transformer, which another team member had deleted. If conflicts are found, work with involved team members to resolve.

  • Transfer 1-line diagram graphic modification from work copies: Since change files do not contain 1-line diagram graphics data new network components that are added by Read change file will not be displayed on the 1-line of the new base case. Use the Diagram | Acquire graphic from another file to transfer new 1-line graphics data to ModifiedBaseCase.olr from relevant WorkCopySnapShot.olr file.

3. Publish the NewBaseCase.olr to all team members.

4. Synchronize team member current work copy with new base case: If team member had made changes to his/her own WorkCopy.olr between submission of the WorkCopySnapShot_n.olr and receipt of NewBaseCase.rly these changes will need to be copied to the new base case:

  • Create change file from current work copy: Team member runs the Case comparison program with WorkCopySnapShot_n.olr  as file A and the CurrentWorkCopy_n.olr as file B to produce change file CurrentChange_n.chf.

  • Apply changes from current work copy to the new base case:  Team member runs command File | Read  change file in the NewBaseCase.olr to apply changes from CurrentChange_n.chf. Save result as new WorkCopy_n.olr
